I’m definitely a mix-tape kind of guy when it comes to playlists. I prefer the short, considered approach to the huge collections that’s usually the norm, especially since music consumption became digitized.

The mix-tape playlist has more in common with an album than the radio. The overall coherence of the playlist is more important than the individual tracks – it should be more than a collection of awesome songs.

The ideal length is around 40 minutes. Longer or shorter can sometimes be ok if it’s not a pop/rock playlist. Anything above 90 minutes is blasphemy.

A good playlist is not thrown together. It’s crafted, expanded upon, evaluated, scrapped, rebuilt, reorganized, evaluated again and maybe then, if it’s good enough – finalized.

These are ones I've put together.
